The white grouper is a marine fish belonging to the grouper family, Serranidae, which also includes sea basses. It is found mainly in the subtropical waters of the eastern Atlantic Ocean and the southern Mediterranean Sea.The white grouper has a relatively long head and a robust body. Its head is longer than the depth of its body, with the body depth usually around one-third to one-quarter of the head length. The area between the eyes has a slightly convex shape.Another distinctive feature is the angular preopercle, which has between three and six large spines at the corner. The lowest spine points downward, helping to distinguish the white grouper from some other grouper species.
This is an estimate. Natural variation applies and cleaning or filleting reduces usable weight.
