Octopus
The common octopus is a marine cephalopod that lives in the Mediterranean Sea and many other warm and temperate seas around the world. Like squid, it is an invertebrate belonging to the group of molluscs rather than to the fish family. The octopus has a soft, rounded body and eight flexible arms surrounding its mouth. Each arm is covered with numerous suckers, which it uses to grip surfaces, handle food, and capture prey. It has large, well-developed eyes and an excellent ability to change the colour and appearance of its skin.It is an intelligent and highly adaptable predator, feeding mainly on crabs, other crustaceans, molluscs, and fish. The octopus often hides among rocks, inside crevices, or in natural shelters on the seabed. It can also change its colour and body pattern to blend into its surroundings or communicate with other octopuses. When threatened, the octopus can release a cloud of ink into the water to confuse predators and make its escape. Its ability to camouflage itself, combined with its intelligence and flexible body, makes it one of the most fascinating animals found in Mediterranean waters.
